The Story
In Wisconsin the Old Fashioned is made with brandy, not whiskey, and it is a point of state pride. Brandy has long been the state's favourite spirit, a legacy of its German and Central European immigrants. A "sweet" is topped with lemon-lime soda; a "sour" gets a bitter citrus soda, and a "press" is half soda and half seltzer. It is the unofficial cocktail of supper clubs across the Upper Midwest.
