The Story
Flips are among the oldest mixed drinks in the English-speaking world, originally a hot mix of beer, rum, sugar, and egg. By the 1800s the flip had become a cold, shaken drink, and Jerry Thomas's 1862 guide includes versions made with brandy, rum, wine, and whiskey.
