Virgin Mojito
ClassicMint, lime, and soda. All of the Mojito's refreshment, none of the rum.
Bright and herbal — muddled mint up front, sharp lime acidity, a light sweetness from the syrup, and soda water's fizz keeping the whole thing light rather than syrupy.
Ingredients
- 8 Mint Leaves
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.75 oz Simple Syrup
- Soda Water to top
- Mint sprig · optional garnish
- lime wheel · optional garnish
Method
- 1
Gently muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice and simple syrup in a highball glass — just enough to release the mint's oil, not shred it.
- 2
Fill the glass with crushed ice.
- 3
Top with soda water and stir once, gently, lifting the mint up from the bottom.
- 4
Garnish with a mint sprig and a lime wheel.
The Story
The Mojito itself is Cuban, built on rum, lime, mint, sugar, and soda since at least the early 20th century — the "virgin" version simply drops the rum and keeps everything else exactly as written, which is enough on its own to carry the drink. It has become the default mocktail order anywhere a real Mojito is already on the menu, precisely because a bar already has every other ingredient on hand.
