Shirley Temple
ClassicGinger ale and grenadine. The original kids' mocktail, still on every menu.
Sweet and fizzy, ginger ale's warm spice softened by grenadine's pomegranate sweetness, with the cherry as the closing note. No bitterness, no heat — built to be exactly as pleasant as it sounds.

The Story
Named for the 1930s child star, the Shirley Temple is one of the few mocktails with a real, traceable origin story — Hollywood legend holds it was mixed at either the Royal Hawaiian Hotel or the Chasen's restaurant so the young actress could join adults at the bar without a real drink. Whichever account is true, the name stuck as the default "kid's cocktail" order at American restaurants for the better part of a century, and it remains the drink most people learn to ask for by name before they ever order a real one.
