The Story
Invented in 1924 at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, the drink borrowed a brand-new American word — "scofflaw," coined in a contest to name those who flouted Prohibition. It was a wink from expat drinkers in Paris to the parched folks back home who couldn't legally join them.
