Tart and tropical, with juniper-forward gin anchoring the fruit. Passion fruit brings a bright, musky tang, orgeat and falernum add almond and spice, and the whole thing lands crisp and refreshing rather than heavy.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Passion Fruit Syrup
  • 0.25 oz Orgeat
  • 0.25 oz Falernum
  • Lemon peel ring · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Add every ingredient to a blender with a scoop of crushed ice, or shake hard with crushed ice.

  2. 2

    Blend or shake until frosty.

  3. 3

    Pour into a chilled coupe.

  4. 4

Garnish with a lemon peel curled into a ring around the surface — Saturn's rings.

The Story

The Saturn is tiki's great outlier: a gin drink in a rum-ruled world. Los Angeles bartender J. "Popo" Galsini mixed it to win the 1967 International Bartenders Association world championship, and it spent decades as a forgotten curiosity until the modern tiki revival rescued it. The lemon-peel garnish, coiled into a ring, gives the drink its planetary name.
