Ingredients

- 4 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice
- Salt rim · optional garnish
- Grapefruit wedge · optional garnish
Method

Rim a highball glass with salt and fill it with ice.

Add the vodka, then top with fresh grapefruit juice.

Stir briefly and garnish with a grapefruit wedge.
The Story
Take a Greyhound — vodka and grapefruit — and rim the glass with salt, and you have a Salty Dog. The mid-century highball started on a gin base before vodka took over; the salt does for grapefruit what it does for the fruit itself, taming the bitterness and sharpening the sweet.
