A Mint Julep with aged rum.

Cool mint and soft sugar over rich, vanilla-edged aged rum. Frosty, aromatic, and slow to sip.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 oz Aged Rum
  • 0.5 oz Simple Syrup
  • 8 Mint Leaves
  • Mint sprig · optional garnish

Method

    Gently press the mint leaves with the simple syrup in a julep cup.

    Add the aged rum and fill the cup with crushed ice.

  3. 3

    Stir until the cup frosts.

  4. 4

    Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig.

The Story

Before bourbon became the standard, juleps were made with whatever spirit was at hand, and rum was among the most common in the Atlantic ports. The Rum Julep is a link to that older tradition.
