Rich and spirituous. Bourbon's vanilla-and-oak warmth meets the dark, roasted bitterness of coffee liqueur, with orange bitters and a flamed peel lifting the whole thing with citrus oil. Deep, faintly sweet and grown-up — a Manhattan for coffee lovers.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 0.5 oz Coffee Liqueur
  • 2 dashes Orange Bitters
  • Flamed orange peel · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Add every ingredient to a mixing glass with ice.

    Strain into a chilled coupe.

  4. 4

Flame an orange peel over the surface and drop it in.

The Story

The Revolver was created in the mid-2000s by San Francisco bartender Jon Santer, a barrel-aged riff on the Manhattan that swaps the vermouth for coffee liqueur and the aromatic bitters for orange. It became a signature of the city's craft-cocktail revival and one of the era's most-copied modern classics — proof that coffee belongs in a spirit-forward, stirred drink, not just a shaken one.
