Reverse Martini
ClassicThe Martini flipped: mostly vermouth, a little gin. Julia Child's favorite.
Crisp, herbal, and gentle, with dry vermouth's wine-like bitterness leading and gin's botanicals lifting from underneath. Orange bitters and a lemon twist keep it bright — a Martini's poise at a fraction of the punch.

The Story
The Reverse Martini inverts the modern Martini's ratio — pouring vermouth as the base and gin as the accent — a return to how the drink was actually made in the nineteenth century, before "dry" came to mean almost no vermouth at all. Julia Child was its most famous champion, preferring a "reverse Martini" so she could have two and still cook dinner. It is a lesson in how good vermouth can be.
