The Story
The Ohio comes out of the Savoy Cocktail Book, part of that manual's family of stirred spirits crowned with champagne. It's essentially a Manhattan — whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters — that's been lengthened and lifted with sparkling wine, the vermouth softening the spirit while the champagne keeps it from feeling heavy. A sophisticated, aromatic way to bring bubbles to a serious drink.
