The Story
The Monte Carlo is a mid-century classic with a glamorous name and a very simple build: it is a Rye Manhattan with Bénédictine in place of sweet vermouth. That one swap trades vermouth's raisin and spice for the honeyed herbs of the monastic liqueur. Three ingredients and a stir, and one of the best short whiskey drinks you can make.
