The Story
The Metropolitan is a brandy-based cousin of the Manhattan that appears in early 20th-century cocktail books. It should not be confused with the 1990s vodka-and-cranberry drink of the same name, which is unrelated. This one swaps the whiskey for brandy and adds a spoonful of syrup, producing something softer, fruitier, and a little sweeter.
