Fruity and smooth. Frothy pineapple and rum with a rosy sweetness from grenadine and a nutty-cherry note of maraschino — tropical without being heavy.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 1.5 oz Pineapple Juice
  • 0.25 oz Grenadine
  • 0.25 oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • Maraschino cherry · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Add the rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, and maraschino liqueur to a shaker with ice.

  2. 2

Shake hard until well-chilled and frothy.

  3. 3

    Double-strain into a chilled coupe.

  4. 4

    Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

The Story

Created in 1920s Havana for silent-film star Mary Pickford while she vacationed there during Prohibition. Bartender Fred Kaufman (or Eddie Woelke, by some accounts) built her a drink as glamorous as its namesake — and it became a Cuban icon.
