The Story
Named for the French Olympic fencing champion Lucien Gaudin, this Paris drink dates to the 1920s. It reads like a dry, lean cousin of the Negroni: Campari and gin meet dry vermouth and orange liqueur instead of sweet vermouth, producing a pale, sharp, elegant cocktail with a bite worthy of its namesake.
