The Story
The Hot Toddy is the original comfort drink — spirit, sweetener, citrus, and hot water, a formula that predates the cocktail itself. It spread through 18th-century Scotland and England as a way to take whisky in cold weather, and it has been pressed into service as a cold remedy for just as long. Simple and endlessly variable, it is the drink you reach for when the weather turns.
