Crisp and gently spiced. Ginger ale's fizz and sweetness carry bourbon's warmth, bitters add backbone, and lemon oil perfumes every sip.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- Ginger Ale to top
- Long lemon peel · optional garnish
Method
- 1
Drape a long spiral of lemon peel over the rim of a highball glass, letting it hang like a horse's neck.
- 2
Fill the glass with ice, then add the bourbon and bitters.
- 3
Top with ginger ale and stir gently.
The Story
It began in the late 1800s as a temperance drink — just ginger ale and a long curl of lemon peel — before drinkers gave it a "kick" with bourbon or brandy by the 1910s. The name comes from that signature spiral of peel draped over the glass.
