Garibaldi
ClassicIBA OfficialCampari and orange, made fluffy.
Bright, bittersweet, and juicy. Fresh orange leads, Campari's bitterness keeps the sweetness in check, and the fluffed texture makes it feel far more luxurious than two ingredients should.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Campari
- 4 oz Fresh Orange Juice
- Orange slice · optional garnish
Method
- 1
Add the Campari to a highball glass filled with ice.
- 2
"Fluff" the fresh orange juice — whip or aerate it until light and frothy — then pour it over the top.
- 3
Garnish with an orange slice.
The Story
Named for Giuseppe Garibaldi, the general who unified Italy, the drink is a fitting metaphor: it joins the bitter north (Campari, from Milan) with the sweet south (oranges, from Sicily). It became a modern icon at New York's Dante, where bartender Naren Young served it with juice "fluffed" on a spinning agitator, giving the humble two-ingredient cooler a signature airy, almost creamy head.
