Bittersweet and herbal, Fernet's intense menthol-and-saffron bite softened by cola's caramel sweetness into something far more drinkable than either ingredient alone suggests.

The Story
Fernet and Coke has been Argentina's default bar order since the mid-20th century, when Fernet Branca's Italian distributors found their biggest market not in Italy but in Buenos Aires and Córdoba, where it's poured by the liter at every asado and nightclub in the country. "Fernandito" is the affectionate nickname bartenders gave the pairing, and the International Bartenders Association recognized it as an official cocktail in its own right rather than treating it as a mere highball variation.
