Silky and off-dry. White rum and dry vermouth form a clean base, orange liqueur adds zest, and a blush of grenadine brings color and roundness.

  4. 4

Express an orange twist over the surface and drop it in.

The Story

The toast of 1920s Havana, named for Cuban president Gerardo Machado and a favorite of American tourists escaping Prohibition. Unusually for a rum drink, it's stirred rather than shaken — an elegant, spirit-forward aperitif with more in common with a Manhattan than a Daiquiri.
