Doctor Funk
ClassicDark rum, lime, and grenadine with an absinthe lift, lengthened with soda.
Tart and refreshing with a deep rum base. Grenadine rounds the lime without making it sweet, soda lengthens and lightens it, and absinthe leaves a cool, herbal finish. An easy, long tiki drink that drinks like a tropical cooler with backbone.

The Story
Doctor Funk is one of the oldest drinks in the tiki canon, poured by Don the Beachcomber in the 1930s and named for Dr. Bernard Funk — a physician who tended Robert Louis Stevenson during the writer's final years in Samoa. It predates the baroque, many-rum tiki drinks that followed: a simple, refreshing highball built on dark rum, tart lime, and the faint licorice snap of absinthe. Simple enough to have spawned countless variations, all still recognizably the Doctor.
