Vodka, cranberry, and a squeeze of lime.

Tart, dry, and refreshing. Cranberry juice leads with its crisp, slightly bitter berry edge, fresh lime sharpens it, and vodka keeps everything clean and light. Not too sweet, endlessly drinkable — the friendly, ruby-red workhorse of the highball world.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 4 oz Cranberry Juice
  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • Lime wedge · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Fill a highball glass with ice.

  2. 2

Add the vodka, cranberry juice, and lime juice.

  3. 3

    Stir gently to combine.

  4. 4

    Garnish with a lime wedge.

The Story

The Cape Codder is the vodka-cranberry that everyone orders and few know by name. Ocean Spray promoted a "Red Devil" of vodka and cranberry back in the 1940s, and by the 1960s it had settled into the Cape Cod — named for the cranberry bogs of Massachusetts. Add grapefruit and it becomes a Sea Breeze; swap in pineapple for a Bay Breeze. On its own, with a squeeze of lime, it's a tart and easy year-round staple.
