Tart and thirst-quenching — grapefruit soda and layered citrus over agave, with a salted rim sharpening every sip.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Grapefruit Soda to top
  • Salt rim with orange · optional garnish
  • lime wheels · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Rim a tall glass — traditionally an unglazed clay cantarito — with salt and fill it with ice.

  2. 2

Add the tequila, lime juice, and lemon juice.

  3. 3

Top with grapefruit soda and stir gently.

  4. 4

Garnish with orange and lime wheels.

The Story

A street-and-cantina staple from Jalisco, the Cantarito takes its name from the unglazed clay cup it's served in, which lends an earthy, mineral note. Think of it as a Paloma with extra citrus and a rustic vessel.
