The Story
The Blue Moon is a pre-Prohibition classic built on gin and a violet liqueur — originally crème Yvette, now most often crème de violette. Stirred and served up, it drinks like a floral cousin of the Martini, and its name comes straight from the glass: the violette turns the drink a hazy moonlit blue. It is one of the oldest examples of a bartender reaching for colour and perfume rather than juice.
