The Sidecar's rum-spiked cousin.

Bright and boozy. Cognac and rum share the base while triple sec and lemon keep it a crisp sour — richer and stronger than it first lets on.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz White Rum
  • 1 oz Cognac
  • 1 oz Triple Sec
  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Lemon twist · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Add the rum, cognac, triple sec, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice.

  2. 2

    Shake until well-chilled.

  3. 3

    Double-strain into a chilled coupe.

  4. 4

Express a lemon twist over the surface and drop it in.

The Story

A Prohibition-era creation often traced to Harry MacElhone's Harry's New York Bar in 1920s Paris. It takes the cognac-and-orange-liqueur template of the Sidecar and splits the base with white rum — a bolder, spirit-forward take with a suggestive name to match.
