Cola's caramel sweetness meets tart lime and a saline edge, with blanco tequila cutting cleanly through the fizz.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • Cola to top
  • Salt rim · optional garnish
  • a lime wedge · optional garnish

Method

  1. 1

Rim a highball glass with salt and fill it with ice.

  2. 2

Add the tequila and lime juice.

  3. 3

Top with cola and stir gently — traditionally with the same knife used to cut the limes.

  4. 4

    Garnish with a lime wedge.

The Story

Invented by Don Javier Delgado Corona at La Capilla in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, the Batanga is the agave world's answer to the Cuba Libre. Its signatures are the salt rim and the bartender's paring knife, used as a bar spoon.
