The Story

The Adonis appeared in New York in the late 1880s, named for "Adonis," the first Broadway musical to run more than 500 performances. It is the Bamboo's sweeter sibling — dry sherry paired with sweet rather than dry vermouth — and it shared the era's fashion for elegant, wine-based aperitifs. Both drinks were staples of the pre-Prohibition bar and have returned with the low-proof revival.
